The Governing Board exists to help the school provide the best possible education for students. It does this by:

  • Ensuring the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school are clearly defined
  • Ensuring that the Headteacher performs his or her responsibilities for the educational performance of the school
  • Ensuring the sound, proper and effective use of the school’s financial resources

During the last few years the roles and responsibilities of school governors have both increased and developed as new legislation has been introduced.  Governors are now appointed for their skills and expertise.  How our Governors are appointed:

  • Parent Governors are elected by the parents of students in school
  • LA Governor nominations considered by the Governing Board
  • Co-opted Governors are appointed by the Governing Board
  • Staff Governors are elected by the staff of the school
  • The Headteacher holds an ex-officio position
  • Associate Members are appointed by the Governing Board

Statutory guidance has been issued by the Department for Education (DFE) under the following statutes:

The School Governance (Constitution) (England) Regulations 2012

The School Governance (Federations) (Constitutions) (England) 2012

The Constitution of governing bodies of maintained schools September 2016

The Head and Governing Board work in close partnership. The Governors’ role is strategic and the Head is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school. Once strategy has been agreed, the Head organises and oversees the school, implementing the strategic framework established with the Governing Board.

The Governing Board meets regularly as a whole group and the Schedule of Meetings is available on the website.  The Governing Board are responsible for adopting and approving essential school policies as set out below.

Please send any correspondence for the School Governors to the school address:  Nidderdale High School, Low Wath Road, Pateley Bridge, Harrogate HG3 5HL
