GCSE Results - August 2017

Nidderdale High School is celebrating another year of strong GCSE performance in the face of new and more challenging GCSE examinations in English and Maths.

Overall, 62% of students achieved at least a grade 4 (broadly equivalent to a Grade C) in both English and Maths, with a great many students achieving the new more challenging 'Strong Pass' mark of Grade 5.   

Three Nidderdale students were celebrating the incredible of achievement of being amongst the first students nationally to be awarded the new top Grade 9 - Tim Jennings and Grace Morrison reached this top mark in English Literature, whilst Elisha Booth achieved a Grade 9 in Maths awarded to just the top 3% of students nationally.

Tim was delighted with his results, saying, “I’m proud of myself, I put in a lot of effort and it has paid off.  I am going to Sixth Form next and my aim in future is to attend a Conservatoire to study music.”

Students continue to excel across a wide range of subjects, with 7 subjects achieving an overall A*-C pass rate of 85% or higher, including several subjects with a 100% A*-C pass rate.

The school's commitment to 'Achievement for All' was shown again this year with 40% of all students achieving at least one A*/A or 7-9 grade. Some notable individual achievements include: Elisha Booth with 7 A*/A Grades, Tim Jennings 6 A */A Grades and Grace Morrison, Caitlin Salton and Liffy Wilson 5 A*/A Grades.

Head of School, Kath Jordan said, "I am incredibly proud of all of students and staff this year, particularly in English and Maths with the introduction of new GCSEs. With so little information to go on during the two year course, all we have been able to do is ask students to make improvements and increase their marks in every mock exam, without knowing what their eventual grade may be. They have risen to that challenge and I am absolutely delighted that so many of our students have been rewarded by reaching or exceeding their target grades. Early indications are that students will have made better than average progress across all subjects. This year a great many of our students have faced personal challenges and individual setbacks, which makes their achievement and progress all the more impressive. Once again, the support of parents, governors and other members of the community has been an important part of our success."
